Helicopter Evac from Baxter State Park on September 7, 2004

A 44 year-old woman spent the night alone on the Abol trail (~3500 feet) after falling and injurying her back on the descent from Baxter Peak. She was discovered the following morning by a hiker who called for help by cell phone. The 112th helivac unit from Bangor, Maine airlifted the subject from the mountain. Members of MDI SAR and Acadia National Park who were providing SAR coverage for Baxter State Park over the Labor Day weekend assisted in the evacuation.
